Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some common questions about electronics recycling. Don't see your question? Would you like a more thorough answer? Just e-mail us, and we will be happy to answer any question or address any concerns.

1. Why should I recycle?
There are many compelling reasons to recycle obsolete electronic equipment, including protection of sensitive information and avoidance of environmental liability. Recycling obsolete computer & other electronic equipment reduces the amount of solid waste filling our landfills

2. Where do I take my recyclables?

3. What e-waste does ABM System accept?
ABM System accepts all kind of Computers, Servers, Laptops, SVGA Monitors, LCD Screen, Plasma TV, PDA’s, Printed Circuit boards, Mice, Keyboards, Printers, Scanners, Speakers, Cell Phones, Pagers, Networking, Telecom, Computer accessories, Copiers, Copper wiring, Inkjet & Toner cartridges, and various other e-waste items. We do not accept items that contain liquids, biological, or radiological waste. If your item is not listed, just send us an e-mail. CRT Monitors, Televisions, & some other items may have a handling fee.

4. What are the hazards of discarding my old electronics in the trash?
Electronics contain pollutants such as lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, phosphorous, lithium, and polycarbons. Electronics that are dumped in the trash often end up in landfills, where these substances can leak into the groundwater and soil. Flame retardant chemicals in computer plastics can release highly toxic dioxins when burned in trash incinerators.

5. Is it illegal to dispose of electronics in landfills?
Electronics are classified as hazardous waste, so local regulations dictate that any electronic waste from non-residential sources (businesses, government agencies, etc.) cannot be disposed of in solid waste landfills. Electronic waste must be disposed of at a hazardous waste facility or recycled.

6. What are the benefits of recycling versus resale?
If a computer is working, then it's still useful, right? Although resale and reuse is sometimes an option, in most cases the current pace of technology has rendered many working systems obsolete. Resale and donation simply pass the disposal problem to another party, often to someone who is not as well-equipped to deal with it in a proper manner.
Recycling equipment is the best choice once it has reached the end of its useful life. It keeps toxic compounds out of our landfills and helps to conserve our natural resources.

7. Is "e-waste" considered hazardous?
Certain components of some electronic products contain materials that render them hazardous, depending on their condition and density. For example, CRT’s ( Cathode Ray Tubes ) from Monitors, Televisions, and Terminals are hazardous, and therefore must be disposed of properly.
